Statement on CUPE Labour Action
Today, Ontario Liberal Leadership Candidate Steven Del Duca released the following statement regarding labour action taken by CUPE:
“CUPE began a work to rule campaign today. It is regrettable – but not surprising – that it has come to this.
Doug Ford does not believe in public education. If he did, he would not have cut per student funding and increased class sizes.
These cuts will have a real impact on our kids. They will mean fewer resources to help them learn and less adult supervision on our school hallways and playgrounds to keep them safe.
That’s why I will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ontario's students and their families, as well as with teachers and education support workers in the fight to make this government invest in education – invest in our kids, and in our future.
It is never too late to do the right thing: The Minister of Education should reverse the cuts Doug Ford has unleashed against students before they cause real, lasting damage.
Doug Ford and Stephen Lecce must go back to the bargaining table and treat workers with respect.”
